As we approach the transition from one year to the next with what feels like dizzying speed, we feel compelled more than ever to push back against the pressure to go, go, go, and carve out a little time to step across the calendar's threshold with a scrap of our calm and purpose intact after the chaos of the holiday season.
Whether or not you subscribe to the idea of new year resolutions, and regardless of your spiritual or religious affiliations, it's a small act of self care (and of rebellion against a culture that often views slowing down as irresponsible) to hit pause and gather your thoughts for the year ahead. The only thing you need to believe in is that the sun will continue rising, and that you'll do what you can to make the most of it. If you're prone to multitasking (🙋♀️), we suggest carving out some brief but intentional time to gather a few items that will help you navigate this liminal moment - we chose a cozy arrangement of a soft rug, the warmth of some incense and candles, a notebook to jot down some thoughts, and a few inspirational objects. You don't have to set up a full Feelings Station if you don't want to, but even the act of lighting a candle or pulling a card will slow down your hands and mind a bit so you can focus on yourself and your place in this strange portal between the old year and the new.
Once you're comfortable, think about something happening in 2025 that you're excited about (and don't overthink it - you may not have a Big Event looming, like a trip, career change or birth, but season two of Severance or the return of $4 daffodils in the grocery store are truly as good as anything else). Write it down if you want, and feel that tiny, physical zip of joy that goes through your center when you think about the thing you're looking forward to. Then take a few deep breaths and send out a sincere wish to feel that feeling many times over this coming year. That's it! Things are hard enough; in this coming year, give yourself permission to just be you, remember to breathe on occasion, notice all the little joys, and consider it a success.
And if nothing else, know that we are truly so grateful for you and your place in our little community, we wish nothing but the very best for you, and we look forward to seeing your face in 2025.
