This spring we're thrilled to welcome a brand we've admired for years into the Apparel store for the first time. Founded in 2004 in Fukuoka, Japan, Ichi Antiquités has earned a cult following for their effortless pieces, the simplicity of which belies their exquisite craftsmanship in beautiful, natural fabrics. Every design is one size - a blank canvas; the brand believes their clothing should last a lifetime or more, molding to you as you wear it, taking on a one-of-a-kind patina all your own. We chatted with the team to get a bit more perspective on their guiding principles and what makes these pieces so special.
How did you end up starting Ichi Antiquitiés?
We originally started out as a wholesaler, dealing in and selling clothing from other brands. Over time, we developed the desire to create and sell the kind of clothes we wanted to wear ourselves, which led to the launch of our own brand.

The idea of history and timelessness comes up often in your messaging.
How do you see this concept manifest itself in the final designs?
One of the core concepts of our brand is: “Clothing that naturally fits your body as you wear it, gradually fading into a color that reflects your true self — garments that bring joy the longer you wear them.” This is the most important value we hold when it comes to creating our clothing.
What inspires and guides you in this work? What do you hope to avoid?
We draw inspiration from everything that stimulates the senses — films, music, natural landscapes, and the hustle and bustle of the city. We believe it’s important that what we consider good is also perceived as good by our customers.
We strive to avoid becoming just another trend or common style found everywhere.

What's the hardest part of this work? What is your favorite part?
Creating clothing that truly represents Ichi Antiquités — that’s the most challenging part, but also the part we love the most.
What are you looking forward to for the future of Ichi Antiquitiés?
For Ichi Antiquités clothing to be passed down from mother to daughter and grandchild.
