Like many of you, we’ve watched with horror and deep sadness as Los Angeles has reckoned with record-breaking wildfires that have killed at least two dozen people, displaced 100,000 residents, consumed more than 12,000 homes, businesses, schools and other structures, and upended life for so many more this month. Like many in Colorado, we’ve also watched with a painful familiarity - wildfires are always in the back of our minds here, and move to the forefront on windy days or during drought periods. The devastating Marshall Fire happened almost exactly four years ago, under similar conditions to the L.A.-area fires, and we have a uniquely terrible degree of empathy for those who live their lives under the regular threat of deadly and uncontrollable wildfires like these.

Apart from a personal connection to the heartbreak of living in fire-prone areas, we also work with many artists and designers who are based in the Los Angeles area. From ceramicists (
Tomoro Pottery,
MH Ceramics,
BZippy,
Rami Kim,
Kat & Roger and
Mt Washington); to apparel designers (
Jesse Kamm,
Atelier Delphine,
Jamie Haller,
NSF Clothing,
AMO Denim,
Hansel from Basel,
Hey Gang and
Carleen); to leather artisans (
Beatrice Valenzuela and
Are Studio); to fragrance geniuses (
Flamingo Estate and
Maison Marie Louis); to jewelers (
Carrie Hoffman,
Kathleen Whitaker,
Annie Costello Brown and
Hannah K), L.A. is a community of incredibly skilled creators, some of whom are now faced with the displacement or destruction of their homes, studios, or workforces that will take months, if not years, to recover from.

For all that Los Angeles has given us, we want to try to give back and help those who have lost so much. Through the end of February, we’ll be donating 100% of proceeds from the sales of our
Bixby Creek and
Ragged Point candles (both named for beloved places in California that also face the threat of wildfires and more) to the
Mutual Aid Los Angeles Network. Our hope is that we can help offset a fraction of the terrible losses that so many have experienced, and offer a little understanding of the extreme weather threats we share. As we find ourselves once again under an administration resistant to addressing accelerating climate threats, we’re committed to looking out for each other however we can.
