Designer Profile

Chimala

With lead designer Noriko Machida, Chimala was established in 2005 as a small-batch denim brand that finds inspiration in vintage military and workwear. Their designs have a unisex approach, with an oversized and worn-in utilitarian aesthetic. Machida’s talent and care shines through in every wrinkle, splatter, fray, and fade-spot on Chimala's clothing, each thoughtfully inspired by history. With vintage denim reworked, and hand painted and distressed details, each piece tells an incredible story. Chimala's works subtly straddle the boundary between art and fashion, giving these timeless looks a new twist rather than a simple retelling of the past.
